My Vision For the Village

In the summer of 2006, I went to my native dictrict in Jamaica and saw that the people did not have a place to worship God.
Many could not get to church because the nearest one was too far. Some were walking for miles to get a place of worship in a neighboring district.
It's like God spoke to me and said, "Build them a church." I never hesitated. I immediately took some money out of the bank, and started building.
The property is located in the parish of Saint Elizabeth on family land.
As I walked throughout the district, I noticed many wayward children, and it's like God said to me "Rescue the children." So, I focused my initial attention on them.
But adults were so hungry for the word of God, they refused to wait for the building to be finished. Half way through construction, they urged me to have watch night service.
That was 2008.
So, we had to run to town and buy chairs to accommodate everyone. It was standing room only on the second floor which was turned into a make-shift sanctuary. And in that unfinished room, God was praised and glorified!
That's also when we started Sunday School.
Ever since, I've gone back twice a year to oversee the building project and distribute donations to the children and young people.
By January, 2009, the crowd had grown so large people were standing outside as service was held. More than sixty adults and children attended.

In the summer of 2009, the neighborhood children were clamoring for something to do, and hanging around the building, so we started a vacation bible school.
Beverly Williams over saw the program, along the help of a couple of young ladies from the neighborhood.
School material, games christian activities were donated from abroad to help entertain and captivate the children.
For four weeks, about 45 of them were taught the word of God and fed scrumptious treats before going home.
All this was happening while the church was under construction.
As is the custom in Jamaica, you construct a building as you have the funds.
So, this labor of love is taking years to complete. But the finished product will stand as a true testament to the might and power of God.
I am simply a vessel being used of Him to do a work that will transform lives at The Village Cathedral, which is the name of the church.
To God be the glory for the things He is doing!

  1. Mother Dearest, I am so very proud of your new blog and your great ministry! Continue to allow God to use you to change the world, one district and one child at a time. Remember, the bible assures us that "your latter years will be greater than your former years."
    Love, Sharon
